Bombay Chutney(Besan Flour Chutney -Kadalai maavu Chutney)

Bombay Chutney (Besan Flour Chutney/Kadalai maavu Chutney), is an easy chutney recipe. Bombay Chutney is a good combination for idli and dosa. Step by step method on the end of this post.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp Besan flour (kadalai maavu)
  • ½ Onion finely chopped
  • ½ Tomato finely chopped
  • 1 inch Ginger finely chopped
  • 2 Green chilli
  • ½ tsp Red chilli powder or to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 ½ – 2 cups water
  • Coriander leaves

To Temper:

  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp Channa dal/gram dal
  • ¼ tsp Urad dal (optional)
  • Curry leaves

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, channa dal and then add curry leaves, green chilli and sauté for seconds.
  2. Add ginger finely chopped and sauté for a raw smell goes out.
  3. And then add onion finely chopped and sauté for 3mins.
  4. Add tomato finely chopped and add salt and cook for mushy consistency.
  5. Then add red chilli powder mix well.
  6. In bowl, add besan flour/kadalai maavu by adding little water to dissolve. Add dissolved besan flour/kadalai maavu using to filter keep stirring slowly in low flame.
  7. Add water to mix well. In low flame 5 mins to cook or until the raw smell goes out and the consistency is thick.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  9. Bombay Chutney (Besan Flour Chutney/Kadalai maavu Chutney) is ready now.
